Thank you for subscribing to the nzhistory teachers email list. Here are
some of the recent additions to NZHistory.net.nz that you may want to
include in your lesson planning.
NUCLEAR FREE NEW ZEALAND
Topics include nuclear testing in the Pacific, nuclear ship visits, the
adoption of nuclear free zone legislation and the sinking of the Rainbow
Warrior on 10 July 1985.
Here is the main feature:

TE KINIGTANGA - THE MAORI KING MOVEMENT
We have recently launched two features on the Kingitanga and a third
(covering the period since 1894) is in the pipeline. To support these
features we have created some suggested activities for levels 12 and 13
students:
Level 2 (part of Maori leadership in the 19th Century):

Level 3 (part of New Zealand in the 19th Century):

GUIDE TO STYLE
This guide was created for writers at the History Group of the Ministry
for Culture and Heritage. There is much here that would also be of use
for teaching kids the techniques of history writing.

COMING UP
There are a number of major new features in the pipeline, most of which
are relevant to the history curriculum, including :
- Maori participation in 20th Century wars
- Crime and punishment - particularly 19th century crime and capital
punishment
- '81 Springbok Tour (25th anniversary)
We have also now taken over the treatyofwaitangi.govt.nz website and
will be starting to integrate this content into a new Treaty section of
NZHistory.net.nz. Part of this process will be to add educational
material for history teachers, so watch this space!
We hope you can make use of all this new content. We love to get
feedback, so please feel free to either respond to this list or email me
directly: steve.watters at mch.govt.nz
Good luck for the term ahead
