CALENDAR COMPLETE
Our New Zealand history events Calendar is now complete. You can find
information and links about a New Zealand history event for every day of
the year. So what happened on your birthday? What happened today?
(well, since you asked, Keri Hulme won the Booker Prize on 31 October
1985).

Some of the events coming up in November:
4 November 1930 - Phar Lap wins the Melbourne Cup. Two and a half years
later he died in suspicious circumstances on 5 April 1932.
5 November 1881 - 1600 armed police and volunteers attack pacifist
settlement at Parihaka.
8 November 1939 - NZ Centennial Exhibition opens at Rongotai, Wellington

13 November 1990 - 13 people were killed in a mass murder at Aramoana;
this was 49 years after another mass murderer, Stan Graham, was shot by
a police officer on 20 October 1941.
22 November 1937 - Scotty Fraser, the 'parachuting Santa', made an
undignified landing in the Auckland Domain lily pond.
25 November 1903 - New Zealand boxer, Bob Fitzsimmons wins third world
title.
28 November 1979 - 257 killed in Mt Erebus disaster. See:

Rugby fans looking forward to the upcoming All Blacks' tour of Britain
and France may be interested to know that 16 September 1905 was the date
the 'Originals' kicked off the All Black tradition with a 55-4 victory
over Devon at Exeter. Also, on 3 October 1888 the New Zealand Native
rugby team played the first game of its British tour. Find out more
