Welcome to the NZHistory.net.nz newsletter, 15 June 2007

It has been a long time since our last newsletter and a lot has been
happening. If you've visited the site since February you will notice
that it has been completely redesigned with a nice clean look and lots
of exciting new whizzy bits and pieces.

RECENT ADDITIONS

New Zealand at the 1982 Soccer World Cup -
Twenty-five years ago, in June 1982, the sport of soccer seized the
country's imagination, when the national side - the 'All Whites' - took
on the best in the world at the World Cup finals in Spain. To get there,
the Kiwis had to battle through an epic qualifying schedule of 15 games.

D-Day -
It was the largest amphibious landing in history. On 6 June 1944 a huge
Allied military machine embarked on the invasion of German-occupied
France. Thousands of New Zealand sailors and airmen were on active duty
that day. We've just updated our D-Day topic by adding some fantastic
images from the Imperial War Museum and oral history interviews from New
Zealand veterans. See it all here:

New Zealand Music Month: 31 reasons to love New Zealand music -
What do Kiri Te Kanawa and 1970s punk legends Suburban Reptiles have in
common? Both feature in the 31 daily stories celebrating New Zealand
Music Month. It's a rich mix - from 'Pie cart rock 'n' roll' to 'Poi E',
from 'She's a mod' to Shihad. See it all here:

Matariki for Social Studies teachers and students -
Matariki, the Maori New Year, can be used by teachers and students of
social studies as a springboard into further topics associated with the
different ways the passage of time is celebrated and measured.
