Welcome to the NZHistory.net.nz newsletter, 4 October 2007

To mark the 90th anniversary of the Passchendaele offensive we've
launched a major new feature <http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4720> in
which we explore the impact on New Zealanders of one of the First World
War's most tragic battles. The feature covers a broad range of topics,
with particular emphasis on the social effects of what is widely
considered our worst military defeat:

THE BELGIUM BATTLES
Find out about the main actions New Zealanders took part in: Messines
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4743> , Passchendaele
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4744>  and Polderhoek
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4745>

THE HUMAN IMPACT
Find out how the war impacted on a school
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4739> , the All Blacks
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4737> and a family who lost three
brothers in one week <http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4738> .

CONDITIONS AT THE FRONT
Find out about life in the trenches
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4822> and the terrible memories of
those who were charged with helping the wounded
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4822>

AT HOME
Find out about fund-raising and support for Belgium
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4733> and the ways we have remembered
those who were killed <http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/4735>

FOR TEACHERS
We have provided some ideas for social studies and history teachers
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/node/5136>  and specific activities for
NCEA level 2 history

The site includes film clips, oral histories with veterans who were
there, interactive slide shows of contemporary images (many never before
published) and graphs and maps. You can find all of these by exploring
the Media gallery page
<http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media_gallery/tid/1563> .

There is a lot here, so we hope you can take the time to look around.

We welcome your feedback <http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/feedback> on this
feature or anything else about the site (including letting us know when
we have made errors or something is not working).
