Welcome to the NZHistory.net.nz newsletter, 9 April 2008

Two new additions to mark the 40th anniversary of the sinking of the
Wahine on 10 April 1968.

Lyttelton-Wellington ferries
Although the service has been overshadowed by the 1968 Wahine tragedy,
for more than 80 years the overnight 'Lyttelton ferry' - or Steamer
Express Service as the Union SS Co pompously called it - was a vital
link in the country's transport network. Find out more:

Wahine story
Kate Watson was 19 when the Wahine capsized and sank, with the loss of
53 lives (including two who died after 10 April 1968). As New Zealand
remembers its worst maritime disaster 40 years on, her story of rescue
and heroism is told on the website as part of our feature on the event.
