Welcome to the NZHistory.net.nz newsletter, 16 March 2009
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
It is ten years to the day since NZHistory.net.nz was launched by the
Hon Jack Elder at a ceremony at National Archives. We'd like to take
this opportunity to thank all of you who have followed, commented on and
contributed to the site over the years. Read more about the history of
the site here: http://bit.ly/HO9Ap
We have come a long way since 1999, as you can see from the Way Back
Machine:

NEW TOPIC - THE MUSKET WARS
Tens of thousands of Maori died in the intertribal Musket Wars of the
1810s, 1820s and 1830s. Muskets changed the face of intertribal warfare,
decimating the population of some tribes and drastically shifting the
boundaries of areas that others controlled. Read more here:

This is the first of what will be a series of topics to be added in the
coming months to expand our New Zealand's 19th Century Wars category.
FOLLOW US ON TWITTER
Followers of twitter.com can now find us here:

Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that enables
its users to send and read other users' updates known as tweets. Tweets
are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Once you have an
account you can follow any one else you choose, from Stephen Fry to
Lance Armstrong. Also, thousands of organisations are twittering -
museums, art galleries, newspapers - whatever your area of interest.
We've been using it for tweets on Today in History and to highlight some
of our more interesting content.
Here's to the next ten years!
